On Sunday, April 26th TUSTEM held a ‘Shinkan’ event to welcome the new students this semester. To encourage intercultural exchange, we divided the participants into teams at random and conducted a mini stamp rally. Each team would visit a total of 5 stalls and play minigames at each stall to add to their collection of stamps. The minigames ranged from simple UNO to a quirky ‘tasting game’; offering a wide range of experiences as each team sought to collect all the stamps available.
Once every team had finished playing, a winner was selected based on the total time taken to complete the challenges. The winning team even got a special prize! After the event itself was over, many of the students chose to stay at the venue to simply chat and play board games.
We at TUSTEM hope this little event allowed the students adjusting to a new life at Tohoku University to foster connections with the people around them. We would be honored if this event helped ease their transition in even the slightest way and wish them a pleasant future here at Tohoku University.
